Marjorie Belle Conklin, daughter of Theodore and Frederica (Keller) Conklin was born on 26 October 1924 in Jerseyville (Jersey County), Illinois. She graduated from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois with a degree in business education. For awhile she worked in retail management with Marshall Fields Department Store in Chicago, but found that business at that time was not friendly to would-be women executives. She then pursued a teaching career and taught high school business courses for many years. She taught in Waukesha, Wisconsin for a few years and then returned to Jerseyville where she taught until retirement. On 3 November 1951, in Jerseyville, Illinois she married. Marjorie was the last member of the Conklin family to live in Jerseyville.
