Marianne was the daughter of David Parrish and Elizabeth Callender Lock. Her aunt Mariah (Lock) Stamper married Kendall's father in 1848. 

According to the "History of the Lock Family", "Mary married Thompson Shankland. To the union were born 3 children.  Simon, Ed, and a girl who died. Young Simon killed her [his sister] cleaning a gun accidentally."  {History of Lock Family, }
 The other children listed in the 1880 census could be the children of a second wife of K. T. Shankland.
