OBITUARY: Southern Recorder, Milledgeville,,Georgia Tuesday, January 28, 1840 MGK0001/MGK0001A Transcribed by William Custer Knight 2/23/05 Found in the files of the Russell Library Departed this life in Emanuel County, on the 3d day of January, of a severe and protracted illness, which she bore with a Christian fortitude and resignation, Mrs. Mariah Knight, consort of Rufus Knight, Esq., in the 36th year of her age. The death of this estimable lady is sincerely regretted in the neighborhood in which she lived, endeared to all by the strongest ties of friendship and affection, mild, benevolent, and condescending, ever ready to relieve the distressed and needy, and to administer comfort and consolation to the afflicted. He conduct through life was characterized by humanity, and a desire to promote the welfare and happiness of those around her. In the relation of parent and wife, she discharged her duty with the most purictilious exactness, endeavoring by precept and example to infuse into the hearts of her children the most, scrupulous regard for those virtues which elevate the character and lead to honor and distinction. She has left a husband and five children to mourn her untimely death.
