In 1838, aged 19, Maria married a fisherman named James Ide. They stayed in the town of Bognor (which was in South Bersted parish) where they had several children. After Maria's mother's death in 1851, her elderly father spent some time living with Maria and James, including on the night of the 1871 census. Maria has yet to be researched after 1851.

Needs to be confirmed at West Sussex Archives. Although her father's name is given here as William, this is considered likely to be an error based on the evidence of the 1871 census.
