    PAYNE, Margaret Wilkerson, was born March 24, 1909 in Rockwall, Texas, and passed away January 7, 2004, at Presbyterian Village North in Dallas. She will be laid to rest in Rockwall, the place of herbirth. She was the last remaining child of Fred and Carrie Wilkerson's six children. Received the honor of Valedictorian of Rockwall High School upon graduation. Attended SMU and Baylor University. On the Baylor campus she met and later married William A. Payne. They began their married life in 1932 and shared 71 years of marriage as loving and devoted husband and wife. She was a lifelong church member and held many responsible positions. Currently, Mrs. Payne was a member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church. Above all else she cherished her family. She is survived by her husband, William A.(Bill) Payne, former Amusements Editor of Dallas Morning News; son, Dr. William A. Payne Jr. and Sandra Settle of Santa Rosa, California; daughter Betty Long and husband Bill of Farmers Branch, Texas; grandchildren: Chuck Payne of Houston, Texas, Gail Payne of Oakland, California, and Bill Long , Jr. of Dallas, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

    Memorial services will be held in the auditorium of Presbyterian Village North, 8600 Skyline Dr. (off Forest Ln.) on Saturday, January 10, 1:00pm. Following the family will receive friends in the library at the Village. Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Children's Homes, 4407 Bee Cave Rd., Suite 52, Austin, Texas 78746.
