Philip married 22 Oct 1741 (family bible) Margaret STEVENSON, daughter of the late John STEVENSON, commissary clerk of Glasgow, and Margaret BAIRD. The will of John STEVENSON, commissary clerk of Glasgow, dated 1730, is in Scottish Archives. Margaret had a brother, Alexander STEVENSON, commissary clerk, owner of the property Clinker (or Clincart), Cathcart, Lanarkshire, who died 16 apr 1783 (family bible). Margaret Stevenson died possibly 2 Jan 1795 (family letters) though more likely 12 May 1792 (family bible). Margaret STEVENSON was said to be related to the Hamiltons of Pencaitland, East Lothian, and the Millers of Dalswinton. Patrick Miller of Dalswinton (1731-1815) was a banker in Edinburgh who later invented the carronade, experimented with the Comet steamship etc. James MCNAIR, husband of Margaret Barton, also claimed to be a relative of Patrick Miller of Dalswinton.
