Margaret Borthwick is the daughter of Sir William Borthwick, 1st of Borthwick.1 She married, firstly, Sir William Abernethy, 7th of Saltoun, son of Sir William Abernathy, 6th of Saltoun and Lady Mary Stewart.1 She and William Douglas obtained a marriage license on 9 December 1420.1
Her married name became Abernethy.1 From 9 December 1420, her married name became Douglas.1
