Overview

This site is described as a "genealogical survey of the peerage of Britain as well as the royal families of Europe." Seems to have an active user community. Of primary interest is the linked genealogy of a large amount of European nobility. Also includes a few curiosities such as a study of the descendants of the European settlers of Pitcairn Island (descendants of the Bounty mutineers) and indexes of those with royal connections who served in various wars or won awards or honors.

Usage Tips

  • Makes extensive use of some well known and well regarded published sources. Some information, however, is relatively less well supported by e-mail. This is easily seen however, as sources appear with the information they support.
  • The site is extremely large, consisting of thousands of pages, so a useful citation that only refers to the home page is not adequate. Fortunately, HTML anchors are present for all of the people represented on all of the pages, so it is simple to create a very precise reference (Mr Lundy, the author, has kindly indicated that this format will be maintained in the future). The person-specific URLs consist of the site name followed by a page and anchor specifier as follows:
[http://thepeerage.com/p37264.htm#i372639 Isabella Stewart] - Isabella Stewart
  • Mr Lundy remains very active with the site, and welcomes contributions and corrections by e-mail or the site's message board.
