Margaret BELL born 30jan1796, married 19nov1827 Matthew REID; Margaret died as a widow 25jun1866. The will is registered at Scottish Archives of „Margaret Reid 13nov1866 nee Bell. Craigmore, relict of deceased Matthew Reid, Wright and Builder in Glasgow“. They lived in Glasgow and at „Craigend“, Craigmore, Rothesay. The 1841 census records in Rothesay: Matthew REID, merchant (50), Margaret (40), Jessie (11), Jane (9), Georgina (7). In 1851 Margaret Reid (b.1799 Glasgow), proprieter of houses, lived at 8 Craigmore Place, Rothesay, Bute, with her children (census). In 1861 Margaret (b. 1800 Glasgow), fundholder lived at Craigend House, 21 Craigmore Rd., Rothesay, with daughters Jessie (b.1836 Glasgow), Jane (b. 1838 Glasgow) and Georgina (b.1840 Glasgow), all proprietors of houses (census). Old Craigmore House, 22 Craigmore Road, Rothesay, is on the coast south of Rothesay. The boat house and presumably the house were built in 1837, probably designed by the architect David Hamilton (1768-1843) for David Bell (b. 1792). Later Stuart McIntosh nee Bell and Elizabeth Barton Masterton nee McIntosh (b. 1875) lived there. Craigend House, 23 Craigmore Rd., Rothesay, presumably built after 1851, was the home of Margaret Reid nee Bell (b. 1796). Undercliffe is 20 Craigmore Road., as Glenarch stood between Old Craigmore and Undercliffe. Benjamin Barton Bell (b. 1840) lived at Undercliffe. David Bell (1792-1863) drew up his will 11jan1860 at Glasgow adding Codicils on 1mar1861 and 11apr1862. Beneficiaries were, among others: Mrs. Margaret Bell or Reid and her 3 daughters. References
