Notes from Leah Tourond: Notes for Malinda Keck: Copied from a newspaper clipping, found amongst the belongings of "Granddad O'Riley" and sent to me by Chuck and Alethea Gaukel. Death of Aunt Malinda Sharp. Aunt Malinda Sharp departed this life Wednesday morning April 26, 1899 at one o'clock. She had been afflicted for years with that fatal disease cancer, and her death was no surprise to her family and near friends. Her funeral took place at their late residence at ten o'clock Thursday, and she was buried a Lower Florida Cemetery. Malinda Decks (sp) Sharp was born in North Carolina in 1827, was married to Daniel Sharp in 1843, and came to Missouri. They first settled in Clay County and from there moved to Nodaway Count and have lived on the place where she died for the past 27 years. She was the mother of eleven children, three of them died, The husband and eight children, Isaac, George, Monroe, William, Paul, Elizabeth wife of J T Linville, Elize wife of Clark Harris, Eve wife of Fremont Smith, still survive her. There are thirty two grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Aunt Malinda and Uncle Daniel were among the pioneers of Nodaway County, as they came here before the Civil War. She was a kind affectionate wife, a noble mother, a kind neighbor, always ready to give aid to the sick and needy. She was a member of M.E Church, south, for many years and when death over took her, she was ready to go to her saviour, who said "come unto me, and I will give you rest." (signed HWB)
