Stuart. Announcement is made of the marriage of Miss Mabel Shaefer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Schaefer, to Dwight Ratliff, son of Mrs. Martha Ratliff which took place June 24, in the Christian church in Des Moines, the Rev. C. C. McCaw officiating. Attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Wayne McLuen of Redfield. The couple will live near Stuart.

Shaefer – Ratliff. Miss Mabel Shaefer and Dwight Ratliff were united In marriage Saturday afternoon, June 24th in Des Moines. Rev. C. C. McCan of the Park Avenue Church of Christ officiated. The bride’s sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Wayne McLuen accompanied them. The bride is a twin daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Shaefer and graduated from the Stuart High School in 1930. The groom is the son of Mrs. Martha Ratliff, who lives north of Stuart. Both young people are well known around Stuart and have many friends who wish them much happiness through life. The couple will be at home with the groom’s mother, Mrs. Martha Ratliff. The groom is employed by Jim McKee. [24 June 1933] [Des Moines Register or Stuart Herald]

Mabel Shaefer Ratliff. Obit. Mabel Isabel [Isabelle] Shaefer, twin daughter of Arthur and Sylvia Shaefer was born in Guthrie County near Adair, Iowa, on February 1, 1913, and departed this life after a short illness at the Iowa Methodist Hospital of a combination of whooping cough and Brights’ disease, in Des Moines, Iowa, January 21, 1934; at the age of 20 years, 11 months, and 21 days.

At the age of seven years she moved with her parents to a farm near Stuart, Iowa, where she grew to womanhood. Mabel graduated from the Stuart High School with the class of 1930. She always had a pleasant smile for every one and was liked by all who knew her. She was a member of the local Rebekah Lodge and also of the Stuart Methodist Episcopal church since her childhood. She has always taken an active part in all social and church activities. On June 24, 1933, she united in marriage to Dwight L. Ratliff of Stuart. She leave to mourn her passing, her devoted husband, her father and mother and two sisters, a twin sister, Mrs. Mildred McLuen of Redfield, Iowa and Lena, of Stuart, Iowa; one brother Everett, of Stuart, Iowa, and a host of relatives and friends. Mabel was a loving and devoted wife, daughter and sister and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services were held in the M. E. church Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Calkins of Stuart and Rev. Moore of Dexter. The pallbearers were: Mr. Shultz Middleton, Mr. Lester Procto, Mr. Austin Zink, Mr. Ellis Harlan, Mr. John Urquhart and Mr. John Brown. A mixed quartette composed of Ronald Moore, Mrs. Joe Swinehat, Mrs. Ada Brinton, Mr. Austin Zink, accompanied by Mrs. Ed Proctor, sang the following songs: “Face to Fact”, “Good Night and Good Morning” and “Going Down the Valley”. The flower girls were: Lamonte Williams, Lorraine Mills, Vera Lee Bloomquist and Lucille Lyddon. Interment was in South Oak Grove cemetery.
