1989 - Newspaper Clipping: Mabel Nickerson Dies at 88. Niagara Falls - Mabel B. Johnston Nickerson, 88, a native of Wilson, died Sunday, July 23, while visiting in Fallon, Nev. She married Herbert S. Nickerson in 1918. He died in 1953. Mrs Nickerson lived in Lewiston from 1935 to 1976, operating the former Nickerson's Service Station there. She was a member of the tenants' organization at Wrobel Towers, where she had lived since 1976; the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston; and a charter member from 1939 in the Lewiston Fire Co. Auxilliary. Mrs Nickerson was also a charter member of the Women's Auxilliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 54 since 1932, serving as treasurer throughout that time and formerly as president, trustee, department guard, assistant department conductress, president of Wester County Council VFW Auxiliary, president of the county council auxiliary and president of the District 6 auxiliary. Surviving are a daughter, Ethyle Chandler of Lewiston; a sister, Hazel Murray of Ransomville; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren…. Burial will be in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston.
