Belton, Mo Sept 5, 1825 Dearest Grandma: I guess you think I have forgotten you but I have not. everyday I think I must write and then don't do it. I have been very busy this summer. I have been to see violet the first time for three years. Allie Mae, Charlie, Wilbur, Dollie and I drove to Moberly the 15th of August and stayed till Tuesday 1st morning. Violet has not been well this summer, she had her adenoids and tonsils taken out. Albert is well. Mr and Mrs smith (people where I stay) lost their little boy, he was eleven. He took sick on Wednesday the 26th at night and dies saturday 29th. He was buried Monday evening. We certainly miss him, he had not been well all summer. Well our school begins monday. I sure dread for it to begin as it is so hot. It sure has been hot today. I was up stairs asleep and Delta had been to town. She stopped and talked awhile, she sure is sweet. Every body says she a I look like mama. I have three new school dresses, I made two myself-I am going to take sewing, english, geometry, caesar and gymnasium this year in school. we have a new professor. Say Grandma, do you remember Mr and Mrs Douglas Lankford and mr and mrs Moore - we saw them when we came home from Moberly. we also saw several of our relatives in Higginsville whem we had not seen for a long time. Wilbur is a great big boy now. Allie Mae is keeping house, they are going to have a new home. We kids think there is no one like Charlie and he thinks a lot of us. He wants some of us to visit them all the time. They have a car and go every where they want to. Grandma, do you have any chickens, if you haven't you come and see me and we will have fried chicken all the time. How is Uncle Frank and what is he doing. Tell BESSIE I will write her a letter soon. How is their new baby getting along? Tell uncle Roy and Aunt Bessie hello for me. I suppose their boy is a great big thing now. I hope you are feeling good. Hos is AUNT LIZZIE AND BESSIE. Bessie said she had been sick. Well as I have no more news I will close, YOUR AFFECTIONATE GRANDDAUGHTER MABEL (write soon) References
