According to a genealogy report from Patti Marshall of Kansas, Swedish records list his occupations as a "crofter" (share cropper) while living in Snöfleboda (?-1868), a farmer at Levershult (near Snöfleboda perhaps in the same time frame) and a tenant farmer at Skjutsmåla (1872-1881). My research indicates that they moved from Ebbemåla to Snöfleboda about 1868, returned to Ebbemåla until 1879 when they moved to Skjutsmåla where they lived until 1881.

The family left Skjutsmåla, Jämshög Parish in 1881 and took ship to the United States from Malmö, Sweden, August 4, 1881. Their declared destination was Kearny Junction, Nebraska.

According to his York County, Nebraska naturalization record, his given name was spelled Mans, in the Swedish fashion but without the "o" over the a as in Måns.

From Mans' obituary: 1. He was survived by his widow, Johanna and five children: August Peterson of St. Joseph, Missouri, Mrs. August Wahlstrom (Betty) of Omaha, Nebraska, Mrs. Frank Hockum (wife Johanna's daughter, Carrie) of Omaha, Nebraska and Mrs. Lena (Karolina or Caroline) Glasser (Glassen) of Lakeview, Oregon, and Mrs. Hanna Schonstrom of Denver, Colorado.

2. There were 8 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. August Peterson had 3 children and Hanna had 2 children. (ED: Of the remaining 3 grandchildren, I have no records of the children of Betty and Lena. At the time of his death in 1931, the great-grandchild may have been his granddaughter Esther SCHONSTROM Baab's daughter, Willene Baab.)
