In History of Ray County, Missouri are biographical sketches of Rev. James Duval and an Isaac Duval who likely was James' brother. The sketch for James recites: "Early in life Mr. Duval was converted to the Christian religion, and connected himself with the Old School Baptist Church." He and his family removed to Ray County in 1848, where he purchased more than 700 acres of land about six miles north of Richmond. Lydia "was an excellent lady, and a fitting companion for her husband. Her death was deeply mourned by her many friends."
