Facts and Events
From: Mahoning Dispatch [Youngstown] "In 1800 James and Lemuel Doud, unmarried brothers, came to Canfield in company with Nathan Moore. In the fall of the same year James returned to Connecticut and in the spring of the ensuing year came back, bringing with him his mother Lydia, and sister Polly, Lemuel in the meanwhile remaining in Canfield. The brothers jointly purchased a large farm on East street, south side, two miles from the center. The farm is now owned by Russel F. Starr. The mother was said to have been as near to perfection as possible in household duties and cookery. She was one of the nine who first organized the Congregational church in 1804; she died in 1808."
