Frances L. Street, descendant:

He [Luther] served in the Confederate Army as Second Lieutenant in the Fifteenth Tennessee Calvary. He was captured in the battle of Nashville and transferred to a Union prison on Long Island, New York. During his prison days, he carved rings from gutta-percha; these were sold so that he might purchase smal;l items to relieve the bleakness of prison life. After the Civil War he returned to his farm in Hardeman County. He was an active member of the Baptist Church of Saulsbury, and a member of the [No. 170] Berlin Masonic Lodge. His farming operations included a water powered grist mill and a water powered cotton gin on Indian Creek.

Luther Calvin, his father Anderson, and other relatives are buried in the family cemetery (Martin-Street) on land still owned by his descendants, the Oliver Street family). See Luther Calvin Street's grave marker at FindAGrave
