In June 1870, Ludwig, a farmer born in Prussia to German-born parents, arrived in the Port of New Orleans on his way to Missouri. He was accompanied by his wife, Wilhelmine, 4 year old daughter Caroline and an infant son, Carl. Sometime before February 1880, the family (I assume) returned to Germany where Bertha was born. Ludwig returned to the U.S. in 1881. Wilhelmine and Bertha followed a year later. By 1900, Ludwig, Wilhelmine and Bertha were settled in Arlington, Sibley County, Minnesota, where Ludwig owned a farm. By 1910, Wilhelmine was a widow and Bertha lived with her mother. In 1920, "Minnie" and Bertha still lived in Arlington.
