Two of Lovina Powell's brothers were reported to have been active with the Underground Railroad. As stated by Kris Kuhn Krumm (on the Samuel Powell werelate.org page): "Handwritten in my copy of the Powell Family History book 1945: 'Of interest to descendants of Mary Ann Powell Chenot: Two of her brothers (sorry I do not know which ones) were active in the Underground Railroad during the Civil War, helping escaped slaves on their way to Canada.'"
