Article from The Kingston Daily Freeman, Saturday, July 13, 1918:

LIGHTNING KILLS ACCORD MAN Leroy Hornbeck, 25 years old, was instantly killed early Friday evening when struck by lightning in the yard of his home at that place. Dr. Fuller was summoned and notified Coroner Kelly, who issued a burial permit. The young man was extremely popular in Accord. A severe electrical storm broke over Accord that evening between 6:30 and 7 o'clock. A bolt of lightning struck the chimney of the Hornbeck home and passing downward killed a dog lying underneath a stove in the kitchen. The bolt then shot over the floor and through a door and hit Mr. Hornbeck, who was approaching the house. It is said that the young man [was] within about ten feet of the house when struck. His father, mother, and sister were in the house when it was hit and were somewhat stunned by the shock.
