Sir Leonard Hastings fought at Agincourt in the retinue of the Earl of March. He was attorney for Ireland under the governership of William, Lord Botreaux, in 1424. [CP VI:370; VCH Yorkshire NR I:559]

After his elder brother, Sir Richard Hastings, died in 1437, he inherited his brother's lands and was soon knighted. he served in France under the Duke of York until 1448. He was Justice of the peace for Leicestershire from 1448 until his death and served on numerous commissions in that county. He served as Sheriff of Leicestershire and Warwickshire in 1453-5

He served in the Parliament of 1455, dying during the recess.
