Up until 2005 the last contact from Leon was in 1917. We discovered(Michelle Doutrich)a registration card(Military?) dated September 12, 1918 from Perryville, Cecil County, MD. According to the card he was a Steam Fitter working for Baker-Smith Company. Also listed on the card was his nearest living relative, Mrs. Rebecca Thompson of Saiger, WV. Through research he was found to have lived in various southern states and settled in Akron, Ohio(1920). Barb discovered that he was living with a family named 'Doutrich'. Young Leon Doutrich was still living so Barb and I visited him from August 22 - 25, 2005. He was now 75. He remembers Leon Thompson very well. He was known as 'Pop' to everyone then. Leon Doutrich was named after Leon Thompson. In the mid 1920's Leon met Sam Doutrich in Akron. At that time Leon was managing a billiard hall and young Sam Doutrich worked for him. They quickly became fast friends. When Sam moved out of the city and onto a farm in December 1941 Leon Thompson went with him and stayed until his death in 1949. Leon Thompson was a hard working farm hand and great family friend. (GPM 8-30-05)
