Started working at the brickyard in Momence when he was 14 years old. Received $1.00 per day. Worked for Grandpay haslett on the farm, and lived in the bungalow. Helped Grandpa Snapp with tiling during the depression when he was layed off of the railroad. Homesteaded 360 acres of the land in Montana during WWI. 30 miles outside of Forsythe. worked for a contractor. Locomotive Engineer- retured from the C&EI RR. Neil Metcalf: Homesteaded a section of land in Montana also. He thought there could possibly be oil there. No luck. |
