Facts and Events
From Meg Page ------ The Wyandot County Ohio Historical Society has a copy of the David Cutting Bible, which seems to have been brought to Ohio by Elijah Cutting and his wife Lucy Douglas Cutting. The Historical Society's volunteers compiled a book from all the genealogical material in their collection of Bibles and I had them send me the page of the Cutting material. Your ancestor, Lavina Fargo, who married Jonas Cutting is in the marriages section as "Leovine" Fargo. Her date of marriage is given as "29 October 1807." 10-31-94 To: [County Historian] Warsaw, New York 14569 Dear Sirs or Ladies, We are told that our grandfather Jerome Bonaparte Cutting was born in Warsaw in 1820, died in Houston, Texas 1912. We believe that his father was Jonas (Charles?) Cutting. Any information you could find on the Cuttings, their spouses, origins, etc. would be greatly appreciated. And I thank you very much for your efforts. Sincerely, Ann S. Cutting Wilson, Mrs. F. Howard Wilson, Jr. 4111 Huntington Road, S. E. Huntsville, AL 35802-1103 Information from the County Historians ... In 1823, he [Jonas] contributed to the establishment of a library in Warsaw. The Cutting-Taber house is located the second house on the right past the main village cemetery traveling south. From other information provided by the Warsaw historian, it seems William P. Clements, Jr., former governor of Texas, was a descendant of Jonas and Lavina. In the Sprague database they have Lavinia, duaghter of Nehemiah Fargo, married to a Sprague. This is not correct, as far as I know, as Lavinia married Jonas Cutting October 29, 1807 in Warsaw, Wyoming Co, NY and lived with him until both died in 1860. From Richard E. (Dick) Weber, webmaster for the Sprague database You present me with a challenge. All the information about Solomon Sprague and his marriage to Lavinia Fargo came from John Scott Christian who at the time was on the faculty of Indiana University at Bloomington. Unfortunately he can no longer be contacted at the address I have for him. If that were not the case, I'd try to engage the two of you in debate to see what clarifications could come from it. Did Solomon marry a different Lavinia Fargo than the daughter of Nehemiah and Mary (Chapman) Fargo? There are many possibilities one can think of to apply to this mystery but all of them may be incorrect. I'll certainly appreciate any light you can shed on this matter. I value accuracy in the information I post with the Sprague project but simply hate to disconnect Solomon from Lavinia without some reasonable examination and debate. I do appreciate your note and look forward to anything you can do to help resolve this research inconsistency. I wish you well and look forward to again hearing from you.
