NOTE: I have not found Lavanda previous to her married to S. V. Shankland.

 I believe Samuel may have divorced Lavanda since she married Hiram S. Sampson in 1906.
 In the 1905 state census for Kansas, there are listings in Rice Co. for L. M. Shankland 1871; Roy 1897, Valentine 1901, and Ester E. 1903
 In the 1910 census for Kanopolis, Ellsworth, Ellsworth Co., Kansas, Hiram S. Sampson is 57 born Iowa (parents same), married twice this time for 3 years, 'store (??)'; wife Lavanda M. is 39, born Pennsylvania (parents same), married twice, with 3 of 3 children living.  The step-children are Roy D. 13; Valentine S. 9; and Ester S. 7 -- all born Kansas (father Illinois, mother Pennsylvania). {ed 31, sh 24a, p. 193}
 In the 1920 census for Kanopolis, Ellsworth, Ellsworth Co., Kansas, Hiram S. Sampson is 67 born Iowa (parents same), city marshal for Kanopolis; wife Lavanda is 49, born Pennsylvania (parents same). The step-children are Roy 23; and Ester S. 17 -- both born Kansas (father Indiana, mother Pennsylvania). {ed 36, sh 11a, p. 208} On the previous page is Valentine Shankland, 20. {p. 207}
  'Labanda' 1871, Valentine 1900 and Lottie Sampson 1898 are all listed in the 1930 census in Ellsworth, Ellsworth, Kansas.
 There are listings in the Buckeye Cemetery in Ellsworth for Hiram S. Sampson, d. 1924 age 72; Mrs. Lavanda Sampson died 1962 at age 92; Roland Shankland died 1921 age 2, and a Paul Shankland died 1895 age 3 months. {Blue Skyways,<http://skyways.lib.ks.us/kansas/genweb/ellswort/arcprojs/buckeye.txt>
