Sampson is 57 born Iowa (parents same), married twice this time for 3 years, store (??); wife Lavanda M. is 39, born Pennsylvania (parents same), married twice, with 3 of 3 children living.  The step-children are Roy D. 13; Valentine S. 9; and Ester S. 7 -- all born Kansas (father Illinois, mother Pennsylvania). {ed 31, sh 24a, p. 193}
 In the 1920 census for Kanopolis, Ellsworth, Ellsworth Co., Kansas, Hiram S. Sampson is 67 born Iowa (parents same), city marshal for Kanopolis; wife Lavanda is 49, born Pennsylvania (parents same). The step-children are Rov 23; and Ester S. 17 -- both born Kansas (father Indiana, mother Pennsylvania). {ed 36, sh 11a, p. 208} On the previous page is Valentine Shankland, 20 born Nebraska (father Indiana, mother Pennsylvania), salt miner; with wife Lottie 22 born Missouri (father Kansas, mother Missouri) and son Roland 1 and 3 months, born Kansas. Brother-in-law Alfred Ramsey is 18, born Kansas (father Kansas, mother Missouri). {p. 207}
 Alfred and Lottie were the children of Benjamin Franklin and Clara J. Ramsey, found in 1900 in Victoria, Rice Co., Kansas, and in 1910 in Dickinson Co., Kansas.
 'Labanda' 1871, Valentine 1900 and Lottie Sampson 1898 are all listed in the 1930 census in Ellsworth, Ellsworth, Kansas.
