Obituary of Lafayette P. Griner as written in "The Camilla Enterprise" dated 18 Nov 1910. Camilla, Georgia. Mr. LaFayette Griner, deputy convict warden and a well-known citizen of this county, died last Monday morning about 1 o'clock, at the home of his father, Mr. J. J. Griner, a few miles east of this city. The cause of his death was typhoid fever, with which he was stricken a little over two weeks ago. As deputy warden, he had charge of the county chain gang, which has been at work on the Camilla and Albany road. When first taken ill, he refused to give up and remained on duty at his camp for several days while his fever was raging. When he was finally removed to the home of his parents, the fever had taken such a hold on him that, although he was a robust, strong man, the physicians were unable to break it. He suffered until shortly after 12 o'clock Sunday night, when death put an end to all pain. Mr. Griner was a popular man with a large circle of friends and his death has been a sad shock to them. He was in the prime of life and leaves a widow and a six week's old baby, besides an aged father and mother and several brothers and sisters. The funeral took place at the Mt. Zion cemetery last Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock, Rev. H. N. Burnett conducting the services.
