Facts and Events
Julia's parents were from Ireland. They moved to England to earn enough money to move to America. Julia was born while they were in England (or was three). Julia enjoyed tea time and had British manners. Linda Hurst says that Julia was strict, saying that children should be seen and not heard. She was a pretty woman. Thin, self willed, disciplined, orderly, and kept an immaculate home. Julia told Louise Hurst that "she liked her best". John died in 1912 and left her with only $1,000, and 6 kids. They were renting their house from her mother. Julia was reported to be drinking beer, which was rare for women at the time. Aledgedly, John Hurst's sister Mamie reported her. The police took her away in a horse drawn paddy wagon and hauled in front of the Justice of the Peace. She was gone for two months. Her children then went to live with their aunts Mamie and Anna for a while. Later, the daughters wound up in Saint Patrick's orphanage. [edit] BurialBuried at Cathedral Cemetery in Scranton, PA.
