Will Transcript

In the Name of God Amen--
I Josiah Minter, of the County of Essex and Parish of Southfarnham being of sound sense and disposeing memory, do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament. First I bequeath my soul to Almighty God my heavenly father, in hopes of pardon and forgiveness of all my sins and wickedness, in and through the merits of my blessed Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and as to my worldly Estate I dispose of it in manner and form following Viz:--Item I give and bequeath unto my son John Minter, the land adjoining him, and my Negro man Adam to him and his heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my son Barker Minter, the tract of land whereon I live, also my Negro woman Kate, My desk, the bed and furniture I make use of myself, a young yoke steers, their yoke and cart, one bell metal skillet to him and his heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my grandson William Minter the bay mare, that is now called his, to him and his heirs forever. Item I give and bequeath unto my daughters Mary Croxton and Susanna Cottrell, one shilling sterling, to them and their heirs , for them to receive no other part of my Estate. Item and lastly I give and bequeath all the remainder of Estate, be it of what kind so ever , that I have not already disposed of to be equally divided between grandson William Minter, my daughter Eliz., Rachel, Sarah, and Gail Minter, to them and their heirs forever (except) a large Trunk, which its my desire, that my grandson William Minter shall have, to him and his heirs forever. Item I hereby constitute and appoint my son John Minter and my son Barker Minter, Executors, to execute this my last Will and Testament, revoking and disannulling all former wills heretofore, that I ever have made as Witness my hand and seal, this fifteenth day of June One thousand seven hundred and Ninety one Anno Domini

At a court held for Essex County at Tappa. on the 19th Day of Sept. 1792 this Last Will and Testament of Josiah Minter was presented into a court by John Minter one of the Executors therein named, proved by Oaths of William Edmondson, Rice Fawcett and James Wright the witnesses thereto and also by the oath of said executor and ordered to be recorded. Whereupon a Certificate was granted and ordered to be recorded to the said John Minter for obtaining probate of the said testament in due form, he the said John Minter having entered into a bond with security ascending to law.
