Facts and Events
[Snapp.FBK,fbc.FTW] Notes for JOSEPH SNAPP: Joseph Snapp lived on a portion of the original Snapp homestead in western Frederick County. His wife, Mary Magdalena, was a daughter of Henry Clowser, who was killed in an Indian attack in 1764. Clowser's wife and his three daughters, ages 5, 7, & 10 were taken captive and held for about six months. Samuel Kercheval, an early area historian, mentions that the mother and daughters returned unharmed and that the daughters grew up, married and had families of their own. At the time he wrote his history in 1832 all three were widows, living in his neighborhood and he named them as Mrs. Schultz, Mrs. Snapp and Mrs. Frye (Samuel Kercheval, "A History of the Valley of Virginia", 1925 pp 98-99.) |
