"405. … Joseph Root, son of John (361), grandson of Joseph (351), bap. March 19, 1693, at Farmington, Ct.; m. Oct. 20, 1715, Hannah Kellogg, said to be of Hartford. He lived at Hartford; in Newington, a parish of Wethersfield; and in Berlin, Ct., and d. Oct. 15th, 1747, and was buried in Christian Lane Cemetery, leaving an estate of £1988. His wife survived him many years, and spent the close of her life with her daughter, wife of Moses Andrews. She d. March 19, 1771, æ. 84. The head stone of her grave is near the front fence in the old part of the cemetery in New Britain, Ct. [See Andrews' Hist. of New Britain.]"

Root, Joseph, Sen., Farmington. Invt. £1988-11-07. Taken 19 November, 1747, by John Hooker, Judah Hart and Isaac Lee. Will dated 12 October, 1747.
I, Joseph Root, Sen., of Farmingtown, do make this my last will and testament: I give to my wife, Hannah Root, 1-3 part of my personal estate forever, and 1-3 part of my real estate during her natural life. I will to my eldest son, Samuel Root, £5 with what he hath already had. I give to my oldest daughter, Thankfull North, £3 with what she hath already had. I give to my 2nd daughter, Hannah, £150 old tenor, to be paid her within one year after my decease. I give to my 3rd daughter, Mary Smith, 10 shillings old tenor with what she hath already had. I give to my 4th daughter, Lydia Root, £150 old tenor. I will to my youngest daughter, Temperance Root, to be paid when she arrives to the age of 18 years, the sum of £150 old tenor. I give to my youngest son, Joseph Root, all the remainder of my real and personal estate, and appoint him to be sole executor.

Court Record, Page 52—1st December, 1747: The last will and testament of Joseph Root, late of Farmingtown, was now exhibited in Court by Joseph Root, son and executor. Proven.
Page 96—10 April, 1749: Temperance Root, a minor, 15 years of age, daughter of Joseph Root, chose her mother Hannah Root to be her guardian. Recog., £500."
