    Root, Samuel, Farmington, son of Joseph Root, late of Farmington decd. Invt. £1910-00-00. Taken 25 November, 1747, by John Hooker, Judah Hart and Isaac Lee. Will dated 12 October, 1747.

    I, Samuel Root of Farmingtown, do make this my last will and testament: I give to my sister Hannah Root £50 old tenor, to be paid one year after my decease. I give to my sister Lydia Root £50 old tenor. I give to my sister Temperance Root £50 old tenor, to be paid when she comes to the age of 18 years. I give to my brother Joseph Root all the remainder of my real and personal estate, ordaining my brother Joseph Root to be sole executor.

    Court Record, Page 52—1st December, 1747: The last will and testament of Samuel Root, late of Farmingtown, was now exhibited by Joseph Root, executor. Proven.

    Page 71—6 July, 1748: Hannah Root and Lydia Root, heirs to the estate of Joseph Root and Samuel Root, late of Farmingtown decd., informing this Court that Joseph Root, Jr., executor to the last will and testament of Joseph Root of Farmingtown, is deceased, and there being no division of the estate of the sd. Decd., made according to sd. will in the lifetime of the sd. executor, prays this Court to appoint freeholders to set out sd. estate, according to the will of the sd. decd., to the heirs of the sd. estate: Whereupon this Court appoint John Hooker, Judah Hart and Isaac Lee of Farmingtown to divide the estate according to the will of the sd. decd., and make return of their doings to this Court. And also sd. Hannah Root and Lydia Root further inform this Court that Samuel Root also appointed the sd. Joseph Root, Jr., decd., executor to his last will and has left no heirs except the sd. Joseph Root and three sisters, and desires the sd. John Hooker, Judah Hart and Isaac Lee to divide the estate according to his last will to sd. heirs mentioned in sd. will.

    A distribution of the estates of Joseph Root and Samuel Root, both late of Farmington deceased. The order is dated 5 July, 1748, and was reported 4 October, 1748, by John Hooker, Judah Hart and Isaac Lee, distributors: Set out to Hannah Root, widow, her thirds of personal estate, etc. Set out to Hannah Root, the daughter, from her father's estate, £150; and from her brother Samuel Root's estate, £50, etc. Set out to Lydia Root £150 from her father's estate; and from her brother Samuel Root's estate, £50, etc. Set out to Temperance Root, from her father's estate, £150; and from her brother Samuel Root's estate, £50, etc. And further, Hannah Root and Lydia Root do promise to pay for us to their sisters: Thankfull North, £3 old tenor; and to Mary Smith 10 shillings; which is according to the wills.
