112.2 Joseph(4) RITTGERS (Abraham3, Joseph2, John1) was born Dec 1855 in Marion Twp., Hockin g Co., Oh., the son of Abraham RITTGERS and Catherine LEFLER. He is on the 1860 census, ag e 4, with parents there.[p 158 fam #1037/1025] On the 1870 census, age 16, with parents in B rown Twp., Darke Co., Oh.[p 3 fam #41/40] Continues there in 1880, age 24, with parents , a farmer. He married Louisa Jane AMSPAUGH (See number 154.4) 23 July 1882, Darke Co., Oh. [DKCoM, p 237] She was born 17 Aug 1862 in Marion Twp., Hocking Co., Oh., the daughter of Jo nas AMSPAUGH (#15.4) and Barbara DOUBENMIRE.(This makes them second cousins.) She is on th e 1870 census, age 8, with parents, Marion Twp., Hocking Co., Oh.[p 507, fam #230/233] and co ntinues with parents in 1880, age 17, Greenfield, Fairfield Co., Oh.[p 142, fam #110/115] Th e 1900 census shows Joseph, age 44, a farmer in Brown Twp., Darke Co., Oh., with his wife, Ly dia (?), age 37. She declares they have been married 18 years and she has born one child. Sy lvester, age 16 is listed with them, as is one David Lefler, Uncle, age 63. He is a widower , born Oct 1836. This probably is his mother's brother, and widower of Mary Rittgers (#11.5) [ED 50, p 57B, fam #194/197] 1910 census finds Joseph still a resident of Brown Twp. He i s 54 and living on "own income." Louisa, 47, declares they have been married 28 years and sh e has born 1 child. Sylvester is still in the home, age 26 and farmer, general farm.[ED 76 , p 8A, fam #172/176] On the 1920 census in Brown Twp., Louisa, age 57, widow, is caring fo r mother, Barbara Amspaugh.[ED 108, p 13, fam #303/303]
