    Joseph died on 27 November 1908 at 318 Killea Avenue in Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana, the cause of death was bronchitis, compliocated with the infirmities of age. He died at the home of his daughter at 1:00 in the afternoon.13 His obituary was published in the Fort Wayne Journal-Gazette Newspaper on 28 November 1908.13 His obituary stated:

Joseph Racht, a pioneer resident of this city, died Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joseph Houser, 318 Killea street, at the age of eighty-six years. The case of death was bronchitis, complication with the infirmities of age. The deceased was born in Germany, but came to this city over half a century ago and had lived here continuously. He was a charter member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and was active in St. Charles' Benevolent society of St. Mary's Church. He leaves four children - Nicholas and Albert Racht, Mrs. Joseph Houser and Mrs. Simon Haas. There are also sixteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. The deceased was widely know and respected in the city. The funeral will be held Tuesday morning at 8:30 o'clock from the residence and at 9 o'clock from St. Peter's Catholic Church
