"2-4 Joseph Owen2 (John1) was born 23 Oct 1660 at Windsor, Conn., and died between 1735 and 1746 at Lebanon, Conn. … In the session of the General Court of May 1686 he was proposed for 'freeman.' In the October session he was so accepted and the Court ordered that he be sworn by the commissioner where he lived.
He settled in Simsbury in 1683 and in May of that year he received a grant of 20 acres on Samon (Salmon) Brook, the same as other Samon Brook men. Subsequently he received other grants on Samon Brook and in Manatuck. In 1687 he was one of the forty-nine inhabitants of Simsbury who agreed to call and pay Edward Thompson as minister. For this he and other subscribers received in 1688 grants of land to run from Simsbury east bounds over the mountain, his lot being No. 18.
In 1692 he sold his lands on Samon Brook and returned to Windsor. In 1703 he settled at Lebanon, Conn. In 1708 he sold his lot No. 18 at Simsbury to his brother, Isaac Owen.
In 1735 Joseph Owen of Lebanon, in consideration of good will and the expectation of comforts and support for himself and his wife Esther, conveyed to his son, Joseph Owen, Jr., certain of his lands and property in Lebanon. In the same year he conveyed certain lands in Lebanon to his sons Joshua, Caleb, and Aaron.
