Since Joseph is not named in the deed cited on his alleged father's page (Alexander is), the answer is probably b, as the land could not have been sold without participation of all the heirs, and no deed is found indicating that Joseph had sold a share otherwise. The actual marriage record in Palmer to Elizabeth Ward in 1761 says Joseph McNall. Joseph McNall is mentioned several times in Temple's History of Palmer as a resident of Palmer around the Revolutionary War (in 1768 he with wife Betty sells land in Palmer vol. 2, p. 723 and Vol. 16, p. 427, and also sells more land in 1777 [Vol. 16, p. 428), and he appears to have had a daughter baptized in Brookfield in 1778, and he appears to have moved to Vermont after the Revolutionary War (e.g., 1790 census). Since no sources are presented, and since 1761 is pretty late for a man born about 1727 to be marrying, it appears everything on this page is the result of confusion with Joseph McNall and then massaging the presentation to shoehorn him into this family.
