Probably he was "Alicksander Mc Knitt" born to "Barnad Mc Knitt" and "Margritt" on 10 Dec 1726 at Worcester, MA.

Presumably his father would be the "Barnad Mc Nitt" who married "Jane Clark" on 19 Feb 1727 at Worcester, MA. This would indicate that his mother "Margritt" died during or shortly after giving birth to "Alicksander".

    "Birth: Dec. 10, 1726
    Worcester
    Worcester County
    Massachusetts, USA
    Death: Nov. 29, 1817
    Salem
    Washington County
    New York, USA"

    "Revolutionary War Soldier"

"The person who supplied the information for Alexander McNitt's gravestone gave the wrong age. Alexander was born December 10, 1726 at Worcester, MA. This date appears on page 176 of Vol. XII of the Collections of the Worcester Society of Antiquity, published in 1894. In the record, his name is spelled Alicksander McKnitt and his parents names are given as Barnard and Margritt."

    Massachusetts, USA
    Death: Apr. 12, 1791
    Salem
    Washington County
    New York, USA"

"Parents Andrew & Isabel Meklem or McClem"

"Mrs. Elizabeth, wife of Capt. Alexander McNitt, born 1730, died April 12, 1791 in the 61 year of her age"

Alexander married Elizabeth on 14 Apr 1749 at Pelham, MA. This marriage was recorded in Vital Records of Pelham, MA to the year 1850 (Boston 1902), p 130.

  4.   Jane McNitt [3], in Find A Grave.

    "Birth: 1742
    Death: Jul. 3, 1811
    New York, USA"

"Jane second wife of Capt. Alexander McNitt born 1742 died July 3, 1811 in 69th year of her age"

Presumably Alexander married Jane after the death of his first wife Elizabeth (ie Aft 1791). Probably Jane would have been a widow.

  6. 6.0 6.1 The birth date in 1721 does not agree with source [S1] which states he was born on 10 Dec 1726.

Presumably the confusion over his birth date arises from the statement on his tombstone [S2] that he was 97 years old at death.

The burial location in Worcester, MA does not agree with sources [S2, S5] which place his final home, death and grave in Salem, NY.

Possibly the Alexander born (and later buried?) in Worcester, MA is not the same Alexander buried in Salem, NY. If so, the identification of the Alexander buried in Salem, NY as the son of Barnard is suspect.

The more likely conclusion as stated in [S5] is that the tombstone is wrong and there was only one Alexander McNitt son of Barnard and Margritt.
