From OBR, pg 102: "Joseph was a soldier of 6th Missouri Cavalry, Civil War. Had two horses shot from under him.

After Prudence Hathaway Doughty died, Joseph married a woman by the name of Babb, then ran away and left her to rear his children. She is credited with doing a good job of it. After many years she applied for a pension, and as a result located her husband who returned and lived with her until he died."
