Biography

Joseph Hoyt, son of Thomas and Mary (Browne) Hoyt was born about 1684.  He married Hannah Chaseof Newbury, Dec. 22, 1707. (p. 29) [1] His wife Hannah was the daughter of Aquila and Esther (Bond) Chase. (p. 69) [2]

He was a shoemaker and farmer and lived in Newbury until Sept., 1712 at which time he bought house orchard barn and land 22 acres lying in that part of Exeter, which now constitutes the town of Stratham. (p. 29) ^[1]

He was chosen tithingman in Stratham 1722.  In 1732 he was taxed in Stratham, NH.  (p. 29) [1]
He died at  Stratham, NH on May 24, 1753 [3], his will being dated May 5, 1748, proved June 15, 1753.  His widow Hannah died March 9, 1774 in the 87th year of her age. (p. 29) [1] [4]

Joseph (Captain) born at Stratham, NH Oct. 22, 1717^[8]; married first Sarah Jewett, baptized at Rowley, MA Aug. 7, 1720, daughter of Jonathan and Mary (Wicum) Jewett. She died May, 1759. (p. 46; p. 82)^[9] He married second Deborah, widow of John Light of Exeter. His will was dated and proved in 1789. (p. 39) ^[1] Anne born Dec. 13, 1719 ^[10]; married Jeremiah Ellsworth as his second wife. ^[11]

Abigail born ___; married ___ Piccart/Pickard. Priscilla born about 1724; married Steven Palmer son of Timothy and Patience Palmer, intentions published at Rowley, Nov. 9, 1745. (p. 36)^[12] She is buried in Candia Village Cemetery ^[13] Jemima born ___; unmarried in May 1748 at the time her father's will was written.
