Gardner, Joseph, s. Habbakuk, bp. Jan. 4, 1701-2. CR1
Gardner, Joseph, s. Habbakkuk and Ruth (Gedney), Jan. 25, 1702.
[Even if you interpret the birth date as 1701-2, these dates are incompatible. Further, there is some conflict with the dates given for Mary that make it clear there were not two sons named Joseph. The transcription of church records in Source:Essex Institute Historical Collections (Essex Institute Press), p. 7:175, provides the same baptism date, suggesting the error is in the original records somewhere. The simplest solution is to assume the birth date is correct, and means 25 Jan 1702/03, as this gives a typical birth spacing. (There is no explanation for a baptism on 4 Jan, except to speculate that 4 Apr 1703 (a Sunday) was the intended date?) In any event, 25 Jan 1702/03 is the conclusion found in Source:Gardner, Frank A. Thomas Gardner, Planter (Cape Ann, 1623-1626, Salem, 1626-1674) and Some of His Descendants, p. 140, when it says "Joseph, b. January 25, 1702; d. Aug. following". Since the death is clearly recorded as Aug. 1703S2, it is interpreting the birth as 25 Jan 1702/03.]
