From a family history: Joseph moved from Bedford County to Lawrence County where he married Elizabeth Elder (who might be a first cousing as her mother was Nancy Rose possible sister to Joseph's mother Rachel Rose). Joseph arrived in Ohio in 1815/16 first in Knox County, Ohio (near his mother's sister Mary Williams) and later to Fairfield/Perry County. Joseph bought a farm about two (2) miles southeast of Pleasantville, Fairfield County, and moved his family there in 1820.

Joseph was supposedly born on the old Friend homestead in Friends Cove, Bedford Co., PA.
