    JOSEPH FINCH (Thummel #34)

    March 23rd 1664, granted a piece of land at Mianus Neck, Greenwich.

    December 30th 1670, granted land.

    December 16th 1673, granted land.

    The landowners at this time in the town of Greenwich or 27 and were styled " the 27 Proprietors of 1672" and their names on the town records were --- Joseph Finch ---. West Greenwich was then called Horseneck.

    1688 on list of landowners and legal voters.

    October 4th 1691, sold to J. Wright.

    Town list for years 1694 - 5 showing comparative wealth, lists; Joseph Finch and Joseph Finch, Jr.

    June 3rd 1713 sold to son Joseph.

    April 2nd 1705, Josef Finch Sr, inhabitant of Greenwich, conveys for love to son Samuel.

    June 7th 1709, was delegate to General Assembly held in New Haven.

    January 31st 1711 / 12, Josef Finch senior conveys for Goodwill and fatherly affection to my natural son Jonathan Finch of Greenwich.

    He served as selectman, captain of the town company, and was four times elected constable.

    Ruth Finch, wife of Joseph Finch Sr Had lands by a town grant 1697. (WIDOW) conveys March 20th 1712 / 13 to her two sons Jonathan and Nathan Mead, both of Greenwich by consent of her husband Joseph Finch Sr.

    Inventory of estate of Joseph Finch Sr of Greenwich taken April 1714, agreement of heirs; Joseph Finch, eldest son, sons Samuel, Jonathan and Benjamin; son-in-law John Reynolds; daughter Elizabeth Whitney; daughter Sarah Finch; son-in-law Jonathan Mead.

    Jonathan Mead of Greenwich and others ( brothers and sisters, Finch) convey to brother Samuel Finch, one half of homestead of Father Joseph FInch deceased, March 12th 1715/16.

    In 1720, sons of Joseph Finch, Joseph Finch Jr and Jonathan, executors for their father deeded land to Joseph Reynolds, their brother-in-law.

    Note 1. John Austin of New London in 1647; of Greenwich after 1651; end of Stamford a few years later. May 23rd 1670, John Austin received a grant of 4 acres of land on clapboard Hill somewhere on the eeast side of the Mianus River. He died about 1673. The following appears in Greenwich land records, Comminplace Book,Vol 1 page 9; John Austin, Thomas Austin, Joseph Finch and Elizabeth his wife all of Greenwich, acknowledge receipt from our father-in-law William Hubbard their full portions from the estate of our deceased Father John Austin July 8th 1684.

    Note 2. John Mead born about 1658 married October 27th 1681, ( first recorded marriage and Greenwich) died May 12th 1693; married Ruth, daughter of Richard Hardy and Ann Husted of Stamford and had four children; John born October 7th 1682, Jonathan born 1684, Elizabeth born 1687, Nathan born 1691. Deed of Jonathan Meade Senior March 16th 1696, proves his son John was then deceased, leaving Widow Ruth (by Weavers Mead Genealogy, she was born Ruth Hardy) and sons John, Jonathan and Nathan and daughter Elizabeth.
    WILL of John Mead Sr signed March 16th 1695 / 6. Recorded Fairfield probate records volume 1 page 196.
    Families of Nathan Mead settled at Amenia, Dutchess County, New York.
    Jonathan Mead settled at Nine Partners, Dutchess County, New York, and his children removed to Chenango County New York, and Wyoming, Northumberland, and Crawford counties in Pennsylvania.
    Family of Timothy Mead settled at Nine Partners, Dutchess County, New York, and in 1769 removed to Rutland Vermont.
