Joseph Dugger was born ca 1784/1790 in Brunswick Co, VA. He is a proven child of Henry Dugger (Jr) and Armon Dugger as named in Henry's estate records.

Joseph Dugger seems to be at home with his widowed mother for the 1810 census.

On 14 Dec 1814 Joseph Dugger obtained a marriage bond in Brunswick Co, VA to marry Martha Peebles, listed on the bond as daughter of Jesse Peebles. (A "Jefrie Peebles" was on the 1810 census in Brunswick Co, VA).

On 25 Dec 1815 Joseph Dugger was bondsman for his sister Armon's marriage to Thomas Kirkland in Brunswick Co, VA.. Joseph Dugger was named in the August 1816 Court record dividing his father Henry Dugger's estate. (Brunswick Co, VA Order Book 27 page 142).

Joseph Dugger was named in the May 1817 Court record dividing his father Henry Dugger's estate. (Brunswick Co, VA Order Book 27 page 304).

Joseph Dugger apparently left Brunswick Co, VA after 1817. I found a Joseph Dugger in Williamson Co, TN in 1820 and 1830, and I'm fairly sure it is the same one.

Joseph Dugger was listed on the 1820 census in Williamson Co, TN. I'm not sure if this enumeration is correct. I'll need to recheck it. The enumerations show alot of older people in the household, possibly siblings of Joseph and his wife Martha. Analysis: Williamson Co, TN Joseph Dugger 200210-20200

I didn't find Joseph in 1840 census, but a widow Martha Dugger appeared on the 1840 census in Giles Co, TN. I don't know for sure if this is the same Martha, wife of Joseph, but it seems likely, especially since some of Joseph's siblings lived in that county already. Analysis:

  • Giles County, TN pg 101 Martha Dugger 0010000000000-0000201000000
  • 1 male 10-14 (1825/30)=Unknown son

  • 2 females 20-29 (1810/20)=1-Unknown daughter; 2-Unknown daughter

I didn't find Martha on the 1850 census in Giles Co, TN. More research is needed on this branch of the family.
