Joseph BOURGEOIS was among 35 yeads of families [he was still unmarried, but of age] who consented to take oath of allegiance at Annapolis Royal, dated 22 Jan 1715.

At end of Dec 1729, Joseph BOURGEOIS took a new oath of fidelity to the King of England, on conditions. From Oct 1729 to Oct 1730 he was one of 8 deputies elected by the inhabitants of Annapolis Royal to represent them to the English governor. However, on 11 Nov 1731, he was among 87 heads of families who refused to let an English surveyor measure his land.
He was deported in fall 1755 with his wife Anne LeBLANC and six children, aboard the ship "Helena" to MA. Two older married children's families were also aboard, as well as a brother and three sisters of Joseph, as well as his mother Madeleine BOURG, age 77 and a widow.
In 1758 Joseph's family appeared on a list of Acadians residing in Beverly, Essex county, MA, as BURNSWAY. He was said to be infirm and incapable of work [he would have been aged around 67.] On 14 Aug 1763, following the Treaty of Paris which ended the war, Joseph BOURGEOIS was among Acadians who petitioned to be transported to France (or French territory), with his wife Anne, two sons and two daughters, and a son-in-law.
In Feb 1766 his oldest son Gre'goire signed a new request to be repatriated to Canada, where the family resettled in 1766 or 1767 [the writer believes that Joseph was still alive].
