Next door is [his uncle? cousin?] Curtis Beals, 30, with family. {p. 109 roll 318 HeritageQuest} I believe this is the C. J. Bales buried in the Dale Cemetery in Hamilton, in 1863 at age 32.

In the 1900 census for Walnut Creek, Bourbon Co., Kansas, Joseph Bales is 74 born July 1825 in Ohio (father Ohio, mother Virginia), farmer, married 53 years; with wife Nancy D. 72 born July 1827 Ohio (father Maryland, mother Kentucky), with (12?) of (19?) children living; son Charlie E. is 28 born Apr 1871 in Illinois, farmer; with his wife Mabel S. 28 IN. On the same page are son Jesse Beals with family and [nephew?] William A. Swank with family. Son Delos is also listed in Bourbon Co., and son James may be as well (age 40 born Ohio in Fort Scott).
 In the 1910 census, his sons Jesse, Curtis and Joseph D. are living in Bottineau Co., North Dakota.
