 There is a marriage record for Curtis Beals and Mary Smith in 1849 in Randolph Co.
 In the 1850 census for Washington, Warren Co., Indiana, John 'Bowles' is a farmer, age 49 from Ohio; with Martha 44 Virginia; Phibe 18 (f) Indiana; Elsen 15 IN; and William 9 IN. Also listed are James Brandenburg 22 OH and Henry Hunt 20 MD, farmers.  In the 1860 census for Middle Fork, Vermillion Co., Illinois, John 'Belas' is 57, born Ohio, farmer; with Martha 53 Virginia; William 18 Indiana; [grandchildren?] Rebecca Smith 15 IN; Hannah 12 IN; and Curtis 10 IN; and [grandson by Joseph?] Curtis Beel 20. {p. 957}
 NOTE: I have not found son William after 1860 -- it is possible he died during the Civil War.
 In the 1870 census for Middlefork, Vermilion Co., Illinois, 'Elean' H. Beals is 35 farmer from Indiana; with Amelia 31 Ohio; Delilah J. 14; Demetrius 13; Sherman 4; Cora C. 2; Levine 3 months -- all born Illinois; John Beals 68 'retired farmer' from Ohio; with Martha 64 born Virginia. {p. 25 / 262 roll 285 HeritageQuest}  His daughter Phoebe Piles and [son?] Joseph 'Bales' are found in Butler with their families.
