GRANDPARENTS: George Washington & Mary (Reed) Arbogast and Alexander & Sarah "Susie" (Rogers) Neal. Known as "Monroe," he was the third great-grandchild of immigrant Michael Arbogast, born 1732 in Kehl, Baden, Germany and settled in Pendleton County, Virginia (present day Highland County). Monroe descended through Michael's son, John. SOURCE: Research of Amanda Crawford Arbogast, Elaine Jeter and Charles Eades. SPOUSE: Monroe married Verba Gladys Samples on Oct. 19, 1930. They had four children. HIS SIBLINGS: James Preston Arbogast; Francis M. Arbogast (1889-1918); Emeretta Arbogast (1891-1924); Grace Arbogast (1892-1894); Minnie Mae Arbogast Smith; George W. Arbogast (1896-1917); Mary I. Arbogast (1898-1971); Glendora Arbogast (1899-1987); Elvira Fay Arbogast Eades; Jessie Sarah Arbogast (1903-1929); and Lucy Esta Arbogast Cantley (1909-2001). Obituary from the Charleston Daily Mail newspaper: J. Monroe Arbogast, 86, of Procious died Sat., June 18, 1994, in CAMC, General Div., after a long illness. He was a former owner of an insurance agency and a former chemical operator at Union Carbide, So. Charleston, with 26 years of service. He was a member of the House of Delegates in 1962. He was a native of Lizemores and a member of Clay AF & AM 97.
