A record search for Jose Gonzales in St. Louis Cemetery #1 yielded the following:
The Historic New Orleans Collection & the William Research Center have a copy of an index card prepared by the Works Progress Administration project identifying visually the names/dates on tombs in several cemeteries in New Orleans.
- "St. Louis #1. GONZALES, Jose, Native of Canary Isles, Husband of Maria Dias, Native of Galestown (sic), Son of Domingo Gonzales and Maria (---). Died Sept. 24, 1799, Age 42 yrs."
The WPA project began in 1938 and once the index cards were completed, they were microfilmed and placed at the New Orleans Public Library. Over the years, other institutions, like the Historic New Orleans Collection, acquired microfilm copies of the cards. These index cards do not state which square is the location of the tomb. It's possible Jose was interred in a "society tomb," or with other family members, or even with friends. The cards do not go into detail.
A search under the Cabos family name found no mentions of "Cabo" in St. Louis Cemetery #1, but there was a Cabos family in St. Louis Cemetery #1. There were no mentions of Jose, Joseph, or Gonzales Y Cabos in the Cabos family search.
