History of the Town of Dunstable, Massachusetts : From Its Earliest Settlement to the Year of Our Lord 1873, p. 296, relays this unattributed description of Jonathan: "He was one of the original proprietors of the town [Dunstable], and the earliest permanent settler, having remained here alone during Philip's War, when every other person had deserted the settlement for fear of the Indians."
