    "In August or September 1691, Captain Alden, Jr., was sent to convey him there [to his newly-appointed post as Governor of Annapolis, Nova Scotia], in the Province sloop, but, on the way, the vessel was captured by a French frigate at Saint Johns. News of this reached Boston on Sunday, October 19, 1691. He was taken to Quebec and later to France where he died."

    Edward Tyng, Boston, s. of the preced. [Edward of Boston & Dunstable] ar. co. 1668, m. Eliz. d. of capt. Thaddeus Clark of Falmouth, wh. was bur. as Sewall's Diary notes 4 July 1690. This gave him great interest in the question of jurisdict. and land titles in Maine. He had Edward, b. 1683; Jonathan, d. young; Mary; and Eliz.; was one of the council 1686, 7 not much in favor with Andros; after conq. of Nova Scotia, he was made Gov. of Annapolis, and on the voyage to his colony was tak. by the French, and d. in France. Admin. was had by his br. Jonathan, Apr. 1701.

    Lt. Col. Edward Tyng, b. 26 Mar. 1649, s. of Edward, wealthy Boston merchant, m. by 1682 Elizabeth Clark and thru her acquired great interests in Falmouth. His fa. had bot Hog Isl. in Casco Bay in 1663. After distinguished service in the Narragansett exped., he was made commander at Fort Loyal on Falmouth Neck 1680. Councillor 1681-1683, 1685, 1686; J. P. 1689. … Appointed Lt. Col. by Sir Edmund Andros and placed in charge at Sagadahoc, but soon afterward being named governor of Annapolis, Nova Scotia, he was captured by the French while proceeding to his post, carried to France and d. in prison. Adm. to br. Jonathan April 1701. Tyng's garrison at Falm. was burned 1690. Ch: Edward, Boston, mariner and merchant, commander of the colonial squadron at the siege of Louisburg. Mary, m. Rev.
